All the same, the term ethernet is a bit of a misnomer. Most modern computers are connected using a standard Ethernet cable.
Ethernet is the technology used for the physical-layer (layer 2) part of the Data Link Layer. It is the standard over which most communication between computers is carried out. A computer connected to an Ethernet network would be able to send a packet across the network, and the computer at the other end of the connection would receive it and respond with a packet of data.
The term ethernet came about because of the need to differentiate between physical and data cables. They are in fact, the same technology, just used in different ways.
Although twisted-pair cables are an excellent connection for computer communications, there are a couple of things about that that make them seem more like a physical connection. First, cables look a lot like a series of wires, and second, the cables are typically much longer than most wires, which leaves a lot of space to make mistakes along the way.
That’s true, but the other problem is that a lot of the time, the physical connection is the way that you have to connect to a computer. If you have a physical connection, you can’t go through your router and start getting data from another computer, rather it must be accomplished through the physical connection. That also means that if you only have a twisted-pair cable, you might have to do a lot of work to connect two computers.
In this day and age with all the Internet of Things devices, it is easy to take them apart and put them back together again. The problem is that the physical connection that makes it possible to send data to another computer is the same that makes it possible to send data between two computers. Both parts of the physical connection need to be intact. You can’t just cut the wires that make it possible to connect two computers and have them act as one.
Twisted-pair cable is a common way to connect computers. It is also the most widely used way to connect computers. The problem is that it can destroy the connection if you cut the wires. So people are using ethernet to connect computers for the first time. It is a two wire cable with two twisted wires. You run one wire going into the computer you want to connect, and run the other wire into the computer you want to connect to.
In the past, many companies would have an ethernet cable go from computer to computer. But now, to connect two computers, you run a cable from computer one to computer two, and connect them together.
This is called a network interface card (NIC), and is the part of your computer that connects your computer to the internet. The NICs are like the modem on your phone. They help you connect to the internet, so you don’t have to run a separate cable. They’re also capable of playing movies, and can connect multiple computers to a single network.
But ethernet cables are not always a good idea. In fact, not all ethernet NICs are compatible with the wire. In particular, the Twisted Pair NIC is only compatible with twisted-pair wire. And you can’t run a twisted-pair cable between two computers directly. To connect two computers you need to run a cable.
